The Director of the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute, Ms. Tanya Mihaylova, participated as Bulgaria’s representative in a working meeting of the Steering Committee of the European Diplomatic Academy, held in Brussels.
The meeting was attended by the Academy’s newly appointed Director, Thomas Mayr-Harting, an experienced Austrian diplomat and academic, as well as representatives of all EU Member States.
The agenda included a review of the past academic year, the programme for the 2026–2027 academic year, discussions on the Academy’s audit report prepared by Ernst & Young, proposed amendments to its regulatory documents, and budgetary matters.
The European Diplomatic Academy is a project of the European External Action Service (EEAS), implemented by the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and its campus in Natolin, Poland.
Members of the Steering Committee also had the opportunity to attend the graduation ceremony for the Academy’s most recent cohort of participants.
The five-month programme was successfully completed by the Bulgarian participant, Ms. Yordanka Choranova, a diplomat at the Common Foreign and Security Policy Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Together with 20 young diplomats from various EU Member States, she completed an intensive programme combining lectures, interactive activities, and numerous visits to European institutions, including the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the EU. The training concluded with a one-month traineeship at the EEAS.
A parallel five-month programme was also completed by 12 young diplomats from EU candidate countries.
Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting expressed interest in the book The Libyan Case, which he received in Bulgarian, and invited its editors to present the English-language edition to the young diplomats during the next academic year.
