Engaging young people to the world of international relations and promoting the diplomatic profession
Through its public activities, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute seeks to engage students and young people with the multifaceted and diverse world of international relations and to promote the diplomatic profession as a career path by presenting its various contemporary dimensions and practical aspects.
To this end, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute has traditionally cooperated with youth and student organisations in Bulgaria, jointly organising youth programmes, study visits to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and practical seminars.
The Internship Programme at the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute offers students from both Bulgarian and foreign universities the opportunity to undertake an internship throughout the year. The Internship Programme aims to help students gain practical experience, familiarise themselves with the nature of the work at the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute and within the diplomatic service, and make informed decisions about their future professional careers.
The Open Doors Programme is aimed at Bulgarian and foreign students and youth organisations. The Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute “opens its doors” to them by hosting study visits during which it presents its activities and those of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the nature of the diplomatic profession, the role of the diplomatic service, and career opportunities within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Current issues in international relations and Bulgarian foreign policy are also discussed.
The Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute is a long-standing institutional partner of the Bulgarian Youth Delegates to the United Nations Programme, organised by the United Nations Association in Bulgaria. The Institute traditionally participates both in the final selection of youth delegates and in their professional training in practical diplomatic skills.
In cooperation with partners from the public and academic sectors, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute also organises national essay competitions on current regional, European and global issues. These initiatives aim to actively engage young people with foreign-policy processes and provide them with a platform to analyse issues, articulate positions and propose solutions.
