In 2013, on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute established its honorary awards, which have since been awarded every year to one Bulgarian and one foreign citizen or institution with a significant contribution to the development and consolidation of the prestige of the Institute.

The award represents a brass medal sculpture Docendo Discimus, which is the motto of the Institute – “By teaching others, we teach ourselves“.
