Presentation of the book “The Libyan Case: All Diplomatic Means” in Burgas

The book “The Libyan Case: All Diplomatic Means” was presented in Burgas by its editors, Tanya Mihaylova, Director of the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute, and journalist Georgi Milkov. The publication brings together testimonies and documents documenting the Bulgarian diplomatic service’s public and confidential efforts to secure the release of the Bulgarian medical personnel detained in Libya between 1999 and 2007.

The event was opened by Stefan Bozhkov, Artistic Director of the ninth edition of Port Prim Art Fest, and attracted considerable interest from residents and visitors to Burgas.

During the discussion, the editors shared insights into the making of the book, the research process and the declassification of archival documents, as well as the pivotal role of Bulgarian diplomacy in the eight-year effort to secure the release of the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor sentenced to death in Libya.

Published by Knigomania Publishing House, the book explores the different dimensions of one of the most complex and protracted foreign policy cases in Bulgaria’s recent history.

Tanya Mihaylova and Georgi Milkov also provided details of the diplomatic initiatives, negotiations and international efforts aimed at resolving the case. Particular attention was given to the importance of diplomatic archives as a source for understanding the processes that ultimately led to a successful resolution.

At the end of the event, members of the audience had the opportunity to ask the editors questions and learn more about lesser-known aspects of the diplomatic efforts to secure the release of the Bulgarian medical personnel.
