At the invitation of La Scuola Language School, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute had the pleasure of taking part in a career forum jointly organised by the language school and the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
Held under the theme “The Future of Philology in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, the forum aimed to present students with career opportunities for young philologists in the field of education, as well as to provide them with an opportunity to meet representatives of various government institutions and international companies, alongside philologists who have pursued careers outside the education sector.
The final part of the programme featured a discussion on the need to establish a legal framework governing the operation of language schools, where it is often the practice for individuals without the necessary educational qualifications to teach.
The Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute was represented at the forum by Ms. Silvana Tsokova, Head of the Public Affairs and Cooperation Department. She presented opportunities for internships and career development within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on the application and selection requirements for junior diplomats and their subsequent training. She also highlighted the advantages of a philological education for pursuing a career in the diplomatic service and in an international environment, with an emphasis on the qualities and competencies it develops that can contribute to becoming a successful diplomat.
Other participants in the forum included teachers and lecturers from secondary and higher education, representatives of the European Commission, the journalistic community, as well as companies and agencies from the private sector. All participants confirmed the growing importance and applicability of artificial intelligence, while also highlighting the enduring importance of the human factor, personal competencies and direct human interaction across the professional fields represented.
