“Energy and Climate Diplomacy”, 8th Issue

The eighth edition of the Energy and Climate Diplomacy collection was published in June 2023. The publication focuses on the EU’s new policies and regulations in the context of the geopolitical and market conditions brought about by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. These include legislative and foreign policy measures and initiatives aimed at addressing the energy crisis — ensuring security of supply and maintaining affordable price levels — against the backdrop of long-term commitments to decarbonise the European economy.

The topics covered also include an analysis of sectoral policies, including oil and gas, as well as renewable energy sources. At the global level, the publication examines developments related to climate negotiations within the framework of the United Nations, as well as the outcomes of the latest Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

The contributors to the issue are H.E. Alexios Marios Liberopoulos, Ambassador of Greece to Bulgaria; Mr. Christian Rynning-Tønnessen, Secretary General of Eurelectric; Ms. Zinaida Zlatanova, Associate at the Liberal Institute for Political Studies; Ambassador Petar Popchev, former Ambassador-at-Large for Energy Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ms. Irina Patrahau and Ms. Lucia van Geuns, researchers at the Hague Centre for Strategic Studies; Dr. Marian Feist and Dr. Oliver Geden, researchers at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP); Dr. Yanko Yanaкiev, energy expert; Mr. Svetoslav Ivanov, Executive Director of Overgas Inc.; Mr. Kostis Stambolis, Chairman of the Institute of Energy for South-East Europe; Chief Assistant Prof. Ivo Tsekоv, lecturer at Sofia University; Ms. Lyubomira Gancheva, energy expert; Mr. Nedko Kosev, PhD candidate at Sofia University; Mr. Veselin Todorov, Chairman of the Solar Academy Bulgaria Association; and Mr. Lyubomir Grozdanov, Business Development Expert at the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange.
