Over 60,000 specialised titles covering the history of international relations, international law, diplomacy, and European integration
As part of its overall activities, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute administers a publicly accessible library that collects, catalogues, and preserves both general-interest literature and specialised publications in the fields of international relations and diplomacy, European integration, international security and geopolitics, international organisations, law, history, sociology, political science, economics, culture, and other related areas.
The Library was established at the time of the Institute’s founding. In 2010, the library collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was entrusted to the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute and merged with the Institute’s own collection to form a unified library collection.
Today, the Library offers more than 60,000 titles, primarily in Bulgarian, English, French, German, and Russian, some dating back to the early 18th century. The collection is continuously updated with new books and periodicals covering current developments in relevant fields.
In 2024, marking its 20th anniversary, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute opened a dedicated new room within its Library, featuring rare and valuable Bulgarian and international publications.
The Library also serves as a venue for expert meetings, book launches, and special initiatives, including the Library on Wheels and Pop-up Library projects.
In line with its overall cooperation policy, the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute maintains active library and information exchange with partner institutions in Bulgaria and abroad, including national, regional, and university libraries, as well as information, research, and library science centres.
